The Messner Mountain Museums
Different places – different exhibitions
The six different Messner Mountain Museums that are located in South Tyrol and Belluno will be familiar to fans of mountaineering and mountains in general. Just like the majestic landscape in which they can be found, the museums are interesting places to get to know not only the mountain and the people who live there, but ourselves too. The founder of these museums? No less than South Tyrol mountaineering legend Reinhold Messner.
The nearest Messner Mountain Museum is Juval Castle near Naturns, located at the entrance to the Schnalstal valley, about 30 minutes by car. This museum is dedicated to the myth of the mountain and houses, among other things, a collection of masks from five continents and Tibetan artefacts. Juval Castle is also the summer residence of Reinhold Messner and his family. He often refers to it as his “place of strength and rejuvenation”.
