A look into the past
Warm hospitality since 1886
The Hotel Filipinum in Merano is no ordinary hotel...if the walls of this art nouveau building could talk, they would tell a very special story that dates back centuries. Everything began in the year 1875 with Monsignore Dominik Filip – he’s the namesake of the Filipinum. Searching for a cure for his lung disorder, Filip noticed a significant improvement when he stayed in the spa town of Merano. He therefore decided to establish a place of recuperation and retreat for other priests. That’s why the Filipinum was founded in 1886.
Even today, there’s still a chapel in the building where priests who are spending their holiday at Hotel Filipinum occasionally say mass.
The hotel has had secular management since 2010. In 2019, the hotel was passed on to its director of many years, Mr Hafner, and his family. But one thing has always stayed the same: the unique charm of the hotel and its neighbouring art nouveau villa.
